Steve McComas is owner of Blue Water Science in St. Paul, Minnesota. He has been working on lakes and streams for over 40 years and specializes in lake management and lake restoration projects. Over the last 25 years, McComas has developed a unique niche advising lake associations, city governments and other relevant agencies on lake and pond-management issues.
He garnered his first lake-sleuthing business by mailing fliers to lake associations in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Gradually, McComas carved-out a niche in small-scale, lake and pond management and improvement techniques – such dredging and plant removal. He’s collected his lake-management ideas in two books: Lake Smarts and The Lake and Pond Management Guidebook.
Steve has authored over 800 journal publications, magazine articles, and technical reports and has written two books on lake restoration methods describing over 300 projects to improve lake conditions. Steve McComas, also known as the Lake Detective, appears occasionally on Joe Soucheray’s Garage Logic radio show and is a columnist for Outdoor News.

Burnett County Forestry is aware of the heaved concrete plank at the boat launch.  It is on their to-do list to get this fixed as soon as possible.  The plank  also has  protruding metal that has a risk of puncturing tires.

Launch your boat with caution until this issue is fixed.

This is a virtual event that will begin at 9 am and end around 3-3:30 pm, but if planning to attend feel free to come and go for different talks! Although Burnett County has been very lucky with having only two lakes detected with Zebra Mussels, this invasive species is still moving around in surrounding counties and the St. Croix River. I highly encourage you all to attend and learn more about what other local lake associations in the Northwest Area are doing to prevent, contain and live with zebra mussel infestations. Burnett County has two lake association representatives speaking at this event including Bob Baker from Lipsett Lake and Sandy Swanson from the McKenzie Lakes! Feel free to pass along to your members!
